Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if Hannibal was a woman? For their new video series “Role Reversal” Glamour delegated that task to Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba. Be warned, it is rather chilling, and the video serves as a reminder that Aduba can truly do anything. Abigail Breslin and Julia Garner also deliver some impressive monologues from the films Fight Club and There Will Be Blood.

Besides terrifying us, the video series has a very relevant and important purpose. Not only does the series give women the chance to put their own spin on some of the most defining moments in cinematic history – it also sheds light on the fact that these complex and heavy monologues are often given to male characters. The roles that exist for women are nowhere near as diverse or meaty as the ones existing for men.

Cindi Leive, Glamour’s editor-in-chief, commented on the series saying that “In a time when women actors complain of the absence of meaty roles to sink their teeth into — and women make up only 30 percent of characters who even get to speak in top-grossing films — Glamour is proud to showcase some of this generation’s most talented young women taking on these memorable roles”. Such a great initiative.

Check out the full series here – and while we’re on the topic of gender-swapped monologues, check out this one. It’s significantly lighter than the ones already mentioned. Enjoy.
