Willem Dafoe To Reunite With Director Robert Eggers On ‘Nosferatu’

Robert Eggers and his The Lighthouse star Willem Dafoe have found their next project to collaborate on, as Dafoe in talks to join Eggers’ Nosferatu at Focus Features. Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skarsgard, and Nicholas Hoult are already on board to star in the new reimagining of the classic vampire tale.

Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him. It’s unknown right now who Dafoe will be playing.

This is a bit of a full circle moment for Dafoe. The original 1922 silent film Nosferatu is a classic, and in 2000, Dafoe starred as actor Max Schreck in Shadow of the Vampire, a meta film about the making of Nosferatu with the added fictional twist that Schreck was indeed a vampire anyway. Dafoe earned an Oscar nomination for the role.

Dafoe was collaborated with Eggers on The Lighthouse and The Northman, so obviously they have a good working relationship. No matter who he’s playing in the Nosferatu reimagining, it will be memorable.

Dafoe’s upcoming projects include two Yorgos Lanthimos films – Poor Things and And – as well as Wes Anderson‘s Asteroid City and French thriller The Man In The Basement. Eggers, who also previously directed The Witch, is also developing a miniseries based on the life of Rasputin.
