For her mother’s day surprise, Willow Smith reunited her mother Jada Pinkett Smith’s, long-inactive nu-metal band, Wicked Wisdom, to perform a song outside the family’s house.
The surprise was filmed for the Mother’s Day-themed episode of Red Table Talk. This episode arrived around the third anniversary of the Facebook Watch series hosted by Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris.
In the episode, we can see Willow recalling when she was little accompanying her mother on tour with her metal band with old home videos, including one where we can see her and her brother, Jaden Smith, cleaning the outside of the tour bus.
“When I was, I want to say about three or four, I went on tour with my mom and her band, Wicked Wisdom. Wicked Wisdom was lit. This is the music that I grew up around. My mother was a Superwoman, she was a rockstar, she was a warrior, and a nurturer all in one. So unapologetically badass,” shared Willow during the episode.
“I was my mom’s biggest fan. Every night I wanted to ride on the security guard’s shoulders and watch her perform. She was a rockstar and I was living for Wicked Wisdom“.
Towards the end of the episode, we can see Willow walking her mother outside the house, where a stage has been set up, and Wicked Wisdom’s members, Pocket Honore and Taylor Graves, along with other musicians are waiting.
To pay homage to her mom who showed her “what womaning up really is about“, the 20-year-old star revealed that she had been spending the last few months practicing with the band. She then joins them to perform one of her favorite Wicked Wisdom songs “Bleed All Over Me.” Pinkett Smith seems moved by the surprise performance and we can see her singing and headbanging along.
Jada Pinkett Smith co-founded Wicked Wisdom in 2002, and she released two albums with the band: 2004’s My Story and a self-titled follow-up in 2006. The band opened for Britney Spears on her Onyx Hotel tour in 2004, they also performed as part of Ozzfest in 2005.
Willow released a new pop-punk song entitled “Transparent Soul” late last month featuring Travis Barker and seems to be working on a punk album of her own as a follow-up to her 2019 self-titled release.
