Two 90s stars still going strong are set to team up. Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves have signed on to star in Destination Wedding, a comedy from director and longtime television producer Vince Levin (5 To 7).
The film tells the story of two miserable and unpleasant guests who are pariahs at the wedding that begin to develop a mutual affection towards each other. The script is also written by Levin, with Gail Lyon of Sunshine Pictures and Two Camel Films’ Elizabeth Dell set to produce.
Robert Jones is also producing for The Fyzz Facility, which is fully financing the film. Jones said:
“When comedy is seated in character and truth it’s both funny and moving, and on that basis Vic’s screenplay is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. Winona and Keanu are wonderfully skillful actors and their chemistry on-screen truly brings these irascible characters to life. Their unswerving commitment to the project is a testament to both material and director”.
While Lyon went on to add: “Keanu and Winona bring a lot of history and chemistry to their roles, which adds a wonderful dimension to their performances and their dynamic”.
It’s a welcome departure from the darker roles the acting duo have been playing lately, with Reeves starring in two violent John Wick films and Ryder as the frightened mother of Will Bears in the acclaimed Netflix series, Stranger Things. Hopefully Destination Wedding turns out to be an enjoyable diversion rather than a lacklustre dead end.
