Fresh off his breakout performance in Danny Boyle‘s Yesterday, Himesh Patel has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan‘s big-budget thriller Tenet.
He joins an impressive cast that already includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Nolan’s best bud Michael Caine.
As with every Nolan film nowadays, the plot is being kept incredibly close to the vest. If you recall, Inception and Interstellar‘s plots were somehow kept hidden until practically the release date, while everyone assumed Dunkirk was a three-hour war epic before the runtime was revealed as rather short, and the film was instead a smaller (but still grand) film about the visceral experience of battle.
Tenet recently had a teaser released in cinemas, which didn’t give anything away but gave fans a few tantalising images to mull over. We do know that the film relates in some way to the world of espionage, but that’s pretty much it. Much will be speculated over the next year, for sure. The film arrives in July 2020.
This is a huge coup for Patel, and it’s good to see him instantly getting a great gig off the back of Yesterday.
Unfortunately, he probably won’t be singing in this role. He’ll next be seen alongside Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones in Amazon’s The Aeronauts. That premieres at TIFF next month. He’s also got a role in the HBO limited series Avenue 5, which stars Hugh Laurie.
