Don Cheadle will produce and star in Prince Of Darkness, a biopic of 19th century black millionaire, Jeremiah G. Hamilton. The film will be adapted from Shane White‘s biography of Hamilton, titled Prince Of Darkness: The Untold Story Of Jeremiah G. Hamilton, Wall Street’s First Black Millionaire.

The script will be written be Steven Baigelman, who co-wrote another recent Cheadle film, Miles Ahead.

The book describes Hamilton as a larger-than-life character, who helped break down barriers and defy convention by dealing exclusively in the white business world and amassing a $2 million fortune by the time of his death in 1875. That’s $2 million in 1875, remember, which would be in excess of $250 million today.

This sounds like an extremely interesting project to tackle for Cheadle, who might even direct the film himself after taking the helm and being relatively successful with Miles Ahead. White’s book was the winner of the 2015 Society for Historians of the Early American Republic Best Book Prize, so the potential is there for the adaptation to be something special.
