‘Indiana Jones 5’ Delayed & Will Miss 2020 Release Date | Film News

While for some time it had been looking like Indiana Jones 5 would be Steven Spielberg‘s next film, plans have changed. First, it was reported yesterday that Jonathan Kasdan, son of Raiders Of The Lost Ark scribe Lawrence Kasdan, was replacing David Koepp to write the screenplay, and that change seems to have contributed to a delay of the whole film.

Per Variety, filming was scheduled to being in April 2019 but will now be pushed back by months, if not a year, because the lead creatives aren’t happy with the current incarnation of the script. However, the report did add that Spielberg and star Harrison Ford remain committed to a fifth outing with Dr. Jones.

Disney hasn’t officially changed the release date but that will almost certainly happen within the next week, perhaps eschewing announcing a new date and putting the film into a bit of temporary limbo.

What this now means for Spielberg is that he’s likely to turn his full attention to the remake of West Side Story, which was previously scheduled to be the project to follow Indiana Jones 5. He has also toyed with making The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara with Mark Rylance, but that looks unlikely to be his next film considering he’s already into pre-production on the musical remake.

So Indiana Jones fans will have to wait a lot longer for their swashbuckling hero to return to the big screen. We will wait and see how long.
