New Michael Jackson Exhibition At The National Portrait Gallery | Culture

 

The National Portrait Gallery has decided to pay a tribute this summer to the King of Pop, the legendary Michael Jackson since he would have turned 60 on August 29 of this year. For this reason, the museum hosts a unique exhibition dedicated to his influential personality.

 

On The Wall‘ is suggested to be a different and intriguing show which will run until October of 2018. Under the curation of Dr Nicholas Cullinan, the remarkable works of 48 significant artists will be displayed at the gallery indicating the impact that Michael Jackson had on their art.

 

“This is not a biography or a memorabilia collection, a retrospective of his career through the prism of music, dance, fashion or a study of his fame. This exhibition is dedicated to his influence on contemporary art”, states the curator.

 

 

Michael Jackson has been one of the most famous as well as important public figures of 20th century with a huge talent, huge success and millions of people loving and supporting him throughout all his career. His death 10 years ago was both a big shock and loss for the music and not only business.

 

Big names of the art industry have been inspired by his exceptional persona and have created distinctive pieces of art. To name a few: Kehinde Wiley, Andy Warhol, Glenn Ligon, Isaac Julien, Auppau Junior Boakye-Yiadom, Candice Breitz, Susan Smith-Pinelo, David Lachapelle, Dan Mihaltianu, Lorraine O’Grady.
