The horror anthology series Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, which ran from 1990 to 2000 and introduced a generation to the spooky tales of famed authors like H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King, is getting a feature film adaptation from Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures. And it seems like the film is a step closer to production as it may have found its director.
D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) is in talks to helm the film. There’s very few details regarding the rest of the film, and the casting process has not started yet. We do know that IT screenwriter Gary Dauberman is penning the adaptation. While Dauberman being on board has horror fans excited, it might not be quite as positive of a reception for Caruso.
Caruso hasn’t exactly had the best track record as a director in the past decade, after working on forgettable films such as Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four, and xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage. His last attempt at horror was The Disappointments Room, which was derided by both audiences and critics, so here’s hoping for something far better this time around.
Are You Afraid Of The Dark? is currently slated for an October 11, 2019 release, so production better get moving pretty quickly if they want to hit that date.
