Brad Anderson To Direct True-Life Film ‘In Search Of Captain Zero’ | Film News

Brad Anderson has signed on to direct the true-life tale In Search Of Captain Zero. The film will be based on Allan Weisbecker‘s 2001 book of the same name.

The memoir details the story of how, in 1996, Weisbecker sold his home and possessions, loaded his dog and surfboards into his truck, and set off in search of his best friend and long-time surfing companion Christopher, who had vanished into the depths of Central America. Michael Bacall is adapting the book.

Ken Kao‘s Waypoint Entertainment, which recently produced Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-nominated The Favourite, as well as Jonah Hill‘s Mid90s, is producing. Casting is currently underway, and the project is being eyed as a strong two-hander. A spring 2020 start date is likely.

Anderson is currently in post-production on the Netflix movie Fracture, which stars Sam Worthington and Lily Rabe. He’s got some excellent films under his belt, such as The Machinist and Session 9. He last directed the espionage thriller Beirut, which starred Rosamund Pike and Jon Hamm. He’s a talented filmmaker that never quite got his big break.

In Search Of Captain Zero has all the potential to be something great, though it is interesting that Bacall, a writer best known for helping pen comedies such as 21 Jump Street and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, is adapting the novel. Still, the true story is fascinating. Expect a host of actors to be lining up for one of the lead roles.
