Peaky Blinders‘ Sophie Rundle and Line Of Duty star Martin Compston are set to lead the new BBC One series titled The Nest.
The five-part drama set in Glasgow follows the story of a wealthy couple Emily (Rundle) and Dan (Compston) who seem to have everything in life, except for a baby. Their situation changes when they meet Kayla, a teenage girl living in another part of the city, who agrees to carry their baby.
The 18-year-old surrogate is portrayed by Mirren Mack in her TV debut. The cast also includes a couple of Game Of Thrones actors: Kate Dickie and Samuel Small, as well as Fiona Bell (Shetland), Katie Leung (Strangers), David Hayman (Hatton Garden) and James Harkness (The Victim).
The BBC describes The Nest as “an emotional thriller about love and money, and the price of being able to buy whatever you want”. It is penned by Nicole Taylor, who wrote the BAFTA-winning series Three Girls. She said: “I am overjoyed to be filming in my hometown of Glasgow with a cast I have long dreamt of writing for”.
Asked about his role in the upcoming series, Martin Compston commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to join the cast of The Nest. Nicole Taylor is one of the most exciting and original voices in writing today, I’m chuffed we’re finally working together. Combined with filming in Glasgow and going back onto BBC One in my native west coast accent makes it a dream scenario”.
Sophie Rundle, one of The Nest’s leading stars, currently appears in Peaky Blinders season five. She will also be returning next year as Ann Walker in the BBC historical drama Gentleman Jack.
Filming for The Nest starts next month in Glasgow.
