Jason Statham & Guy Ritchie Re-Team For New Heist Project | Film News

Jason Statham is re-teaming with Guy Ritchie for an American remake of the 2004 French action-thriller Le Convoyeur. Miramax have acquired the rights to the project. The original film follows a security guard who has an ulterior motive when he takes a job working for an armoured truck company. Jean Dujardin plays a role years before he won the Best Actor Oscar for The Artist.

The revenge-based remake will follow a mysterious man named H who goes to work for armoured truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. Like Ritchie’s other collaborations with Statham – most notably Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch – the film is expected to bounce back and forth between various characters’ perspectives.

A previous remake was in the works years ago. Titled Cash Truck, it would have starred Sandra Bullock and had Narcos director Josef Wladyka attached to helm. That version would have found Bullock playing a down-on-her-luck American who takes a job in London. That version eventually fell through.

This will serve as Ritchie’s follow up to The Gentlemen, which stars Matthew McConaughey, Henry Golding and Colin Farrell and just debuted its first trailer. Miramax CEO Bill Block and Ivan Atkinson will produce the film. Block said of the project:

“Working again with Guy Ritchie on our second collaboration together, alongside renowned actor Jason Statham, is a privilege, and we anticipate that the tone and flavour of these two longtime friends will resurrect nothing less than a true, genre classic”. Ritchie added: “I’m looking forward to bringing this story to life and working with Jason while he still has the use of his knees”.

Ritchie is of course coming off the huge global success of Aladdin. That box office triumph likely gave him the cachet to make whatever he wanted. And considering Statham is coming off his own hit in the form of Hobbs & Shaw, no studio is going to turn down the chance to finance a collaboration between the two.
