Soulful British pop singer, pianist and award-winning songwriter, Yoji has released a new single titled “Old Fashioned”, taking from her upcoming third EP Retro Romance.
Originally from London, this artist has always been lulled by music from a very young age. In fact, at the age of five, she began creating her own songs and at eight, she began classical piano lessons. Yoji grew up in an artistic and creative world, thanks to the fact that her mother is a former student of Saint Martins and therefore, always felt supported in her choices.
Her new single “Old Fashioned” was recorded and produced when Yoji was a Popular Music student at Goldsmiths University, and throughout the new track, she wants us to dive into her universe, with her use of velvety soulful tones and sultry saxophone to hold our attention. She stands out from others due to her vintage Motown recording techniques to record live instruments.
According to the singer, “Old Fashioned is soulful classic celebration of love and passion for life unravelling my experiences of true love. I am inspired by artists who write music with a deeper meaning and I have learnt so many life lessons from artists such as Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill & Jill Scott. I hope my songs can resonate with listeners and make them feel connected through our shared experience”.
She also took inspiration from the Stevie Wonder song “Mr Know It All” for the latter parts of “Old-Fashioned”, which, as she describes it, is about making a romantic memoir of a long relationship.
