Karol G and J Balvin stand out from the others in the nominees list for the 2021 Latin American Music Awards. Both are nominated in nine categories, including Artist of the Year, sharing the category with Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, Christian Nodal, Eslabon Armado, Maluma, Ozuna, and Sech.
The two Colombian artists have marked the year 2020 with the release of Colores, J Balvin’s album as well as the success of the collaboration between Karol G and Nicki Minaj for the track “Tussa”, which has not stopped breaking records since last year, especially last September when the clip exceeded one billion views on YouTube.
The singer Bad Bunny follows them very closely with eight nominations including artist, song, album, and social collaboration of the year just followed by Ozuna with seven nominations.
The other nominees this year are Anuel AA with six nominations, Black Eyed Peas and Christian Nodal with five, Maluma and Shakira with four, and Carlos Vives, Myke Towers and Prince Royce with three.
Other nominees to watch out for are Becky G, Jennifer Lopez, Kali Uchis, Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos, Gloria Estefan, and Wisin y Yandel.
Artist nominations are based on fans’ interactions with music, including streaming, sales, TV and radio broadcasts, social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners MRC Data and Next Big Sound for data covering the periods from January 17, 2020, to January 21, 2021.
As for the winners, they are chosen by the fans who vote online, so if you’re hoping to see your favorite artist win, you can vote up to 25 times per category per day.
The Latin American Music Award ceremony will take place on April 15 for a live broadcast on Telemundo from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The sixth annual ceremony will be on-air at 7 pm (Eastern time) with the red carpet before the show, followed at 8 pm (Eastern time) by the awards ceremony.
