New York Times bestselling author and journalist Michael Lewis‘ new book The Premonition: A Pandemic Story is to be adapted for the screen by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Universal has acquired the rights to adapt the new book.
Like his previous book The Big Short, in which a group of financial experts predicted the collapse of the world’s finance sector in 2008, The Premonition focuses on medical visionaries who saw the severity of covid-19 and the speed in which the virus was spreading. The focus is on three main characters, a biochemist, a public health officer and a federal government employee, all working in the White House.
Between them, they tried to warn the world of the seriousness of this virus despite what the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, was saying about not worrying and covid not being serious.
The tone of the film is said to be similar to All The Presidents Men, focusing on the distinctive characters in the book who took many risks in the hope of saving lives.
This new project marks the second adaptation of a best-selling novel by the duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the first being Project Hail Mary, which is due in 2022. They also worked together on the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Like its predecessors The Big Short, The Blind Side and Moneyball, the adaptation of The Premonition: A Pandemic Story is expected to be an award-winning success.
