‘Paddington 2’ Is No Longer The Best Movie Ever On Rotten Tomatoes | Film News

A few weeks ago, Citizen Kane lost the top spot on Rotten Tomatoes‘ best films list, following a negative review from 1941 found and posted on the site that tracks film reviews. Orson Welles‘ classic was replaced by Paul King‘s Paddington 2, the only other film to have 100% positive reviews.

According to the Rotten Tomatoes matrix, Paul King’s feature film, which was released in 2017 as a follow-up to the first film in 2014, had become the most loved film thanks to its 224 100% positive reviews. However, history is repeating itself and an old review from 2017 recently added to the site has just made it lose its honorary title in turn.

A certain Eddie Harrison, a critic for the Film Authority website, called the film “contrived and ridiculous” and the film’s teddy bear “a sinister and malevolent imposter”.

He added that “this manly, sarcastic, sullen and self-assured bear has nothing to do with the original character”. The two parts of the film are an adaptation of the adventures of Paddington Bear, written by English author Michael Bond between 1958 and 2012.

No film now holds the feat of garnering 100% positive reviews on the site.

After the success of the first two films, which took in $280 million and $225 million respectively at the box office, the British teddy bear will continue his adventures in the cinema, as a third part is officially in preparation.

However, Paul King will not be taking the camera again for this new part as he is currently busy working on the prequel to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory with Timothée Chalamet.
