Rebecca Ferguson is on board to star in Best Served Cold, a revenge film in development at Skydance with Deadpool director Tim Miller attached. The film will be based on Joe Abercrombie‘s book of the same name, with the author also writing the screenplay.
Originally published as part of Abercrombie’s First Law series in the summer of 2009, Best Served Cold tells the story of the legendary mercenary Monza Murcatto, the betrayal that ostracizes her, and her ensuing quest for revenge that will forever change a nation.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce, as will Miller and Abercrombie.
Ferguson is best known for her excellent work as Ilsa Faust in the recent Mission: Impossible entries, so she’s a perfect fit to take the lead in her own action film.
And with Miller at the helm – himself experienced with action franchises having helmed Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate – Best Served Cold looks to be in good hands.
Not only that, but it’s just the first installment in Abercrombie’s aforementioned First Law trilogy. So the studio will be salivating at the possibility of a franchise-starter.
Ferguson has a big year lined up, with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One due in July, and Dune: Part Two set to arrive in November, where she’ll reprise her role as Lady Jessica Atreides. She also stars in sci-fi series Silo on Apple TV+, which premiered earlier this month.
This will be Miller’s first directing gig since Dark Fate, although he has served as executive producer on both Sonic the Hedgehog films, and recently took over reshoots on Lionsgate’s Borderlands adaptation following Eli Roth‘s exit from the project.
