Hailing from Durham County, Isabel Maria unveils her latest track, “Plasticine.” This new piece, part of her debut EP titled The Melodramatic Milers Club, offers an intense musical experience blending pop-rock elements, featuring impactful drums, vibrant electric guitar, and ironic lyrics.
“Plasticine” delves into themes of revenge while exploring the intricate feelings of superiority and inferiority. Isabel shares her inspiration, stating, “Fundamentally, ‘Plasticine’ touches on the desire to confront those who have wronged us and prove our superiority. However, she emphasizes the importance of realizing that this mindset isn’t constructive.”
The song metaphorically captures the act of manipulating a situation to transform it, much like molding plasticine. Produced by Harbourmaster Productions from South Shields, the track is both a vulnerable ballad and a layered pop-rock composition, coupled with sincere lyrics, creating an immersive auditory experience.
At just 17 years old, Isabel Maria swiftly emerged onto the music scene in 2021 with her single “Catharsis,” supported by Sunderland’s Young Musicians Project. Drawing inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift, Joni Mitchell, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lorde, her music effortlessly spans indie and pop genres with a captivating and personal touch.
Isabel’s musical journey has seen notable successes, including being a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest for both “Catharsis” and “is it over yet” in 2021 and 2022, collaborating with Liverpool-based producer Dan Scholes.
Her recent work, recorded with Harbourmaster from South Shields, earned her the prestigious Northern Writers Award from Writing North in June 2023. In January 2024, the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland honored Isabel Maria with the esteemed Alan Hull Award 2024, amplifying her visibility with live performances broadcasted on various radio stations.
The latest track, “Plasticine,” showcases a growing maturity in Isabel’s musical style, exploring themes related to mental health, pain, hope, and healing. Three new tracks, all produced by Harbourmaster, reveal the evolution of her sound, now enhanced by a full band to enrich her artistic expression.
In conclusion, “Plasticine” offers a captivating dive into Isabel Maria’s musical universe. With diverse influences and an introspective approach, Isabel continues to stand out as a promising voice in the contemporary music landscape.
