The plot of Clive Barker‘s 1987 novel, Weaveworld, is without doubt pretty weird; even by Clive Barker standards. Set in 1980s England, the book follows a young man who discovers a hidden realm, full of magic and enchantment, in a rather attractive vintage rug. A colliderscope of ancient mythology and modern politics; the novel shifts genre, from fantasy, to horror, to thriller, to something else entirely, as a small band of defenders attempt to save this mysterious world from the horrors of ‘The Scourge’. Deadline is now reporting that The CW will adapt the series for TV, with Barker on board to exec-produce.

Written by Warehouse 13‘s Jack Kenny, there seem to be some major changes going on to up the cultural relevance of the project. Check out what Deadline had to say below:

In the TV adaptation, an app designer teams up with a young pastry chef who has just discovered that she is destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion. Together, they fight an epic battle with evil forces who are vying for control of the magical world.

Those app designers, always with the adventures… It appears some of the more horrific elements of the novel will also be altered; there’s a witch who devines knowledge by handling her dead sister’s afterbirth, something called The Surgeons who fillet their victims, and a sorceress who weaponizes her own blood. Well, what did you expect from the guy who brought Hellraiser to our screens?

Not much more is known about the project at the moment, but this sounds like one to look out for. Let’s hope they don’t gut the novel of all its wonder before it gets to us.
