Alec Benjamin Introduces New Album ‘(Un)Commentary’ With The Single ‘Shadow of Mine’

After two first singles “You Felt” and “Older” to announce his second album (Un)commentary, to be released via Elektra Records on April 15, Alec Benjamin has released the track “Shadow of Mine”, accompanied by a music video directed by Gus Black (Phoebe Bridges, Sheryl Crow).

The song is a moody and mesmerizing piece that speaks to the futility of trying to outrun your demons. In this regard, the young LA based singer-songwriter explains “A lot of the time you think your problems are the product of your environment, when in reality they exist inside you”.

Alec has an already impressive resume which includes over 4 billion global streams, over 10 million social media followers across his platforms, and over 1 billion YouTube views on his channel.

Following the successes of “Let Me Down Slowly”, “Water Fountain” (Platinum), and “Oh My God” (Gold), TIME hailed him as “a pop storyteller for the next generation”. The singer-songwriter looks forward to continuing his retrospective run of new music into 2022.

The forthcoming 13-track album, (Un)commentary, was born out of a relentless questioning of the world around him: the pressures and disappointments of adulthood, the indignities of social media addiction, existential anxiety and angst, and countless other manifestations of what he calls “raw human nature.

“I think my generation has a lot of valid criticisms of everything that’s happening in our country and in the world right now”, says Alec of (Un)commentary’s essential narrative. “The question is: are we going to tear ourselves apart, or are we going to leave this place better than we found it?”

(Un)commentary was produced by Sir Nolan (Kehlani, Selena Gomez), Sam de Jong (Lennon Stella, Gary Clark Jr.), and RØMANS (Mary J Blige, Khalid) and features writing collaborations with Dan Wilson (Adele, Leon Bridges), Charlie Puth (Justin Bieber, John Legend), Sam Roman (RØMANS) and Nolan Lambrosa (Sir Nolan) to name a few.

In the spirit of forging connection, Benjamin hopes that (Un)commentary might provide others with a sense of solidarity in chaotic times, and possibly inspire them to live a more examined life.

He will continue the 2nd leg of his North American tour this April with 20 additional headlining shows, as well as his debut performances at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 17th and 24th.
