Angelina Jolie In Talks To Star In Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’ | Film News

Angelina Jolie is the latest big name considering hopping on the Marvel train. She is reportedly in talks to star in Marvel’s The Eternals. Chloe Zhao (The Rider) is directing from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, with MCU chief Kevin Feige producing.

Originally created by Jack Kirby, The Eternals follows the titular super-powered and near-immortal beings and their enemies The Deviants, who were created by cosmic beings called Celestials. Feige previously stated how he was excited to introduce an ensemble as one, rather than building up characters individually like they previously did:

“We like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. More like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people. […] Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years, and that’s also something we haven’t really done”.

It’s unclear right now who Jolie will play, but she’s been a longtime advocate for gay rights, and Eternals is expected to feature Marvel’s first openly gay character, so it wouldn’t be surprising if that was one element that drew her to this project. Zhao’s presence behind the camera was also likely a contributing factor.

With Avengers: Endgame expected to be the last ride for many of Marvel’s big-name stars, it’s understandable that they’re looking for another big name like Jolie to step in and help carry the post-Endgame torch. The Eternals is already looking like an intriguing project for the MCU, and it will be fascinating to see how it develops.
