Apple TV+ Orders ‘Shrinking’ Series From Jason Segel & ‘Ted Lasso’ Creators

Apple TV+ has given a series order to Shrinking from Jason Segel and Ted Lasso co-creators Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein.

Segel will co-write the show and star as a grieving therapist who is done treating his patients by the ethical code of conduct and starts to tell them how he really feels. He finds himself making tumultuous changes to people’s lives – and his own.

Shrinking is actually the second Apple Original project in development from Segel, as he will also star in an adaptation of YA novel The Sky Is Everywhere, which is being directed by Josephine Decker (Shirley).

It also makes plenty of sense that Apple want to continue working with the creators behind Ted Lasso, which has become their most successful original show thus far.

Lawrence is also writing and producing a series adaptation of Carl Hiaasen‘s book Bad Monkey starring Vince Vaughn, while he’s also working on reboots of Head Of The Class and Clone High.

Apple have another show revolving around therapy – The Shrink Next Door starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, based on the podcast of the same name – debuting in November.

Combined with HBO recently rebooting their own therapy drama In Treatment, now starring Uzo Aduba, perhaps therapy shows are having a bit of a moment. Not a surprise when you look at the current state of the world.

There’s no word yet on when Shrinking is expected to begin production nor when it might debut on Apple TV+, but with Segel and the Ted Lasso guys involved, expect Apple to view it as a priority.
