Apple TV+ Shows Will Include Adult Content After All | TV News

Word came back in September that Apple’s upcoming streaming service would be pulling a Disney. In other words, Apple TV+ would reportedly only feature family-friendly content and forego anything geared towards adults.

Reports claimed that Apple chief Tim Cook wanted everything toned down, and that the $1 billion they put aside for programming under its umbrella couldn’t risk tainting its brand image.

These were reportedly the reasons why the Dr. Dre biopic Vital Signs was abandoned. The show would have featured adult content including drug use, gun play, and an orgy scene. Apple dominates the global smartphone market, among other things, and seemingly put those brands ahead of their streaming platform.

But maybe things have changed. This week, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, spoke with British GQ and claims there is plenty of adult content happening on Apple TV+.

He mentioned that the upcoming dramedy The Morning Show, starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, will include things “definitely not appropriate for you to watch with an eight-year-old”.

Cue went on to say that Apple is “ultimately trying to create shows for everyone. So we have shows that are dedicated to small kids. And we have shows that are dedicated to mature adults. So we’re going to do a lot of different shows and what we’re going to do is hopefully create the best shows on TV”.

He also denied reports that Cook and others were getting too involved with the shows. We’ll wait and see what happens with Apple TV+ (and whether they change that cumbersome name). Despite these reports, we still know very little about the platform. But it will eventually be interesting to see how Apple differentiates itself from competitors like Netflix and Amazon.
