Much like her equally inspiring and worship-worthy peers, Amandla Stenberg and Rowan Blanchard, Modern Family star and teen role model Ariel Winter has been very vocal about her stance on positive body image. And like any normal teen she frequently uses Instagram and Twitter as an emotional outlet, and as a platform to spread inspiring and thought-provoking messages.
The actress has been very open about her decision to undergo breast reduction surgery, “I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts], it made me feel really uncomfortable, because as women in the industry, we are totally oversexualized and treated like objects”.
Walking the red carpet at the SAG Awards, Winters could have opted for a less revealing gown or makeup to conceal her breast reduction scars but instead she choose to proudly flaunt her surgery scars in a beautiful Romona Keveza dress.
While the actress attracted a lot of positive attention, she was also subjected to some rather unfair and unnecessary comments. Winter was, however, not having any of it, and took to social media to set the record straight. The actress began by tweeting out an inspirational and confidence-boosting message to her fans.
Guys there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all. 🙂

Winters followed this body-positive message with an equally inspirational Marc Jacobs quote on Instagram. “I always find beauty in things that are odd or imperfect — they are much more interesting” along with an equally inspiring caption “Embrace all that you are… Scars & everything. Your imperfections make you perfectly you #loveyourself”.
This is such an important message. Scars are not flaws, and you shouldn’t be ashamed of them. They’re your medals of valour, and they’re a reminder of where you’ve been and what you’ve overcome. Life isn’t about perfection, it’s about being your best and most authentic self.
