Ben Affleck In Talks To Direct War Movie ‘Red Platoon’ | Film News

While all the focus right now is on the upcoming Justice League film and his future as Batman, Ben Affleck is also lining up his directorial follow up to Live By Night. He’s in early talks to take the helm of Afghanistan war movie Red Platoon at Sony.

The film is to be based on the bestselling memoir by Clinton Romesha, which is a firsthand account of the fourteen hour firefight at the Battle of Kamdesh. In 2009, the Taliban sent a force of 300 men to Command Outpost Keating – a extremely difficult to defend outpost – where Staff Sargeant Romesha led a small band of soldiers to defend and counterattack against the odds.

Interestingly, Casey Affleck is being eyed for the lead role. If both Affleck’s sign on, it would be the first time they have worked together since Gone Baby Gone, which was Ben’s directorial debut. He’s followed that up with acclaimed films such as The Town and Argo, the latter winning Best Picture, before Live By Night turned out to be a bit of a misstep.

That likely won’t worry Sony too much, and with Casey coming off a Best Actor victory at the Academy Awards, they’ll be hoping a siblings team up can give Red Platoon the sort of success the two brothers have had themselves at the Oscars in recent years.
