Danai Gurira‘s excellent year might be about to get even better. Between her acclaimed role as Okoye in both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, and with The Walking Dead finishing up its eighth season (with the ninth set to premiere later this year), the actress is now in early talks for another big role: in Warner Bros.’ big MonsterVerse clash, Godzilla Vs. Kong.
Deadline reports that the part would be a leading role of some sort, though specific details are scarce at this point. If she signs on, she’ll join a cast that already contains Julian Dennison, Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler. Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) is set to direct the film, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas May 22, 2020.
On top of that, Gurira has also reportedly been offered a role in Star Trek 4, though there are even fewer details regarding that one and looks more likely to be a supporting role, as the plot is set to revolve around Chris Pine‘s James Kirk and Zachary Quinto‘s Spock somehow encountering Kirk’s father (Chris Hemsworth).
These are obviously smart moves by the studios as Gurira has been the standout in not just two of the biggest movies of all time, but in one of the most well known TV shows as well. If she does indeed sign on for Godzilla Vs. Kong, that cast will be filled to the brim with talent and could turn that event into something truly epic.
