Boston Singer-Songwriter Rothstein Unveils New Single ‘Pushover’

Rothstein, the Boston-bred and NYC-based singer/songwriter, is stirring excitement with the release of his new single “pushover,” part of the upcoming album How Not To Drown, which is scheduled for release on September.

Known for soul-infused pop singles like “don’t look down” and “chokehold,” Rothstein’s highly awaited album delves into complex themes like vice, indulgence, and the intersection of beauty and wickedness. He describes the album as “emotionally articulate,” exploring not just misery but a blend of beauty and darkness.

Rothstein’s statement on his album’s thematic content provides insight into his creative direction: “My next album ‘How Not To Drown’ is pretty dark, but it’s more concerned with being beautiful than anything I’ve made before.

Darkness is like that; people do bad things because doing them feels good, and many of this record’s most gut-wrenching moments feel so good it’s easy not to notice what I’m saying. The misery, cynicism, and general nastiness are coated in very shiny paint, and that’s just the way I like it.”

The album is more than a personal narrative. It dives into universal stories of vice and pleasure, presenting songs that are “emotionally satiating and deliciously intricate.”

Since his breakthrough in 2018 with “Get Your Shxt Together,” which charted on the US Viral 50, Rothstein has thrived independently, amassing over 20 million streams on Spotify.

He has also sold out shows in major cities and achieved significant playlist support with various curated lists, indicating his growing influence in the indie-pop landscape.

Rothstein’s influences are eclectic, drawing from artists like Future, Charlie Wilson, Donald Fagen, and Paul Simon. His artistic journey has evolved over time, with each project reflecting a different phase. While his earlier work focused inward, channeling his raw misery, the forthcoming album uses a more outward-facing lens.

Additionally, Rothstein has made significant contributions outside his solo career, writing songs for various multi-platinum producers, rappers, bands, and even K-Pop stars.

As a member and principal songwriter of the Grammy-winning band/production collective Brasstracks, he’s played sold-out headline shows and collaborated with prominent artists.

The anticipation surrounding ‘How Not To Drown’ reflects Rothstein’s growth as an artist and his willingness to explore dark, intricate themes with a fresh perspective.

With an album that promises to be “pretty and evil in equal measure,” Rothstein is poised to captivate audiences when it is released later this year.
