Chris Evans Stars In First Trailer For Apple TV+ Series ‘Defending Jacob’ | TV Trailer
Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for Defending Jacob, their upcoming mystery thriller limited series starring Chris Evans.
The series is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by William Landay, and also stars Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, Cherry Jones, J.K. Simmons, and Pablo Schrieber.
Evans plays Andy Barber, a Massachusetts district attorney whose high school-aged son Jacob is accused of murdering a classmate.
It’s an impressive first trailer, capturing the moody, brooding vibe you expect from these sorts of stories, and harkens back to the days when these sort of mystery/crime thrillers were cinematic staples rather than elongated limited series on streaming platforms. It’s also cool to see Evans in a quieter dramatic role like this.
While the mystery within the show looks compelling, there’s no mystery why Apple have commissioned this series. True crime and fictional crime shows have always been a popular genre, but within the last decade have seen a huge uptick in interest.
After a shaky start to streaming thanks to the slightly bizarre The Morning Show and other series that didn’t exactly set the world alight, Apple will be hoping this is the show that brings in subscribers – especially when everyone is stuck at home – and becomes the first step towards them competing with the industry giants like Netflix.
Defending Jacob arrives on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 24.
