Rebecca Root of BBC’s Boy Meets Girl has expressed her desire to play the next Doctor on the infamous British TV show, Doctor Who. The British actress and comedian was the first transgender actor to be cast in a transgender role on British mainstream TV, and it seems that now she’s ready to conquer new goals.
When speaking to Digital Spy, Root described how a suggestion she made on British radio soon sparked a mini campaign in support of her becoming the next Doctor. “Somebody tweeted it and then the Radio Times tweeted it and somebody else tweeted it and it’s gone round in this mini campaign to get Rebecca Root as the first female or even trans Doctor“, the actress explained. Although she had initially made light of the suggestion, Root does admit that it would be an absolutely amazing part to play.
