David Harsent Wins TS Elliot Poetry Prize | Arts

David Harsent has been up for the TS Elliot Poetry Prize award four times previously; his nominations for the award can be dated back to the late 90s, but at last, the noughties bring him success with his fifth nomination. His eleventh collection of poetry titled ‘Fire Songs’ has earned him the cash prize of £20,000, with the chair of the judges, Helen Dunmore saying about Harsent, “a poet for dark and dangerous days. Fire Songs plumbs language and emotion with technical brilliance and prophetic power“. It’s nice to see a poet of perseverance prevail.
