Everything You Need To Know About The New ‘Cruella’ Film | Film News

New details about the upcoming Cruella film have been released.

The live-action flick will be set in the 1980s and have a “punk vibe”, telling the story of Cruella De Vil’s early life before she meets the 101 Dalmatians.

Cruella made her first appearance on screen in the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians and again in the sequel, 2003’s Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure.

Glenn Close famously portrayed Cruella in the 1996 live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians along with its sequel 102 Dalmatians, in 2000.

Little else is known about the plot, but it’s expected to give more depth to the character dubbed as the “devil woman” and delve into her relationship with Anita Radcliffe, who she steals the dalmatian puppies from.

Oscar winner Emma Stone has been confirmed to play the young Cruella, while Emma Thompson is rumoured to be joining the cast in an undisclosed role.

It won’t be the first time she’s starred in a Disney remake, having played Mrs Potts in the 2017 box-office hit Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins author PL Travers in Saving Mr Banks.

I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie will be directing the film, taking over from Alex Timbers due to conflict with Timbers’ Broadway schedule.

The film is expected to be released in the US on December 23, 2020 and a week later in UK cinemas on January 1, 2021.
