Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky had to be evacuated during its opening day, due to extreme weather conditions. The festival in America was evacuated during the middle of the headlining set by Sam Smith. Smith was 35 minutes into his set, when a rainstorm hit the site and made the show impossible to continue.
MTV reported that the festival site quickly became dangerous due to the weather: “strong winds kicking up dust and sending trash swirling around. The area in front of the main stage was almost empty just minutes after the first alert, as banners on the stage were whipped around by strong winds and some vendor’s tents began to sway and threaten to buckle“.
Sam Smith posted a picture on Instagram with the accompanying message: “The drama is real right now!! Literally In the middle of ‘Lay Me Down’ there was an electrical storm and I had to be taken off stage and the whole festival had to evacuate. This KILLS me, because you guys were SO loud and incredible!!!!!!!! You were so loud the heavens opened haha. Gutted. But I do feel like Dorothy“.
