First Trailer For Blumhouse’s Update Of ‘Fantasy Island’ | Film Trailer

Blumhouse has released the first trailer for its modern update of Fantasy Island. The film is based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, and although the basic premise is the same – lure young people to a remote luxury destination and let them run wild – the goal is obviously a lot darker here.

Judging by the trailer below, this is a straight up slasher film with nods to Triangle, A Perfect Getaway, and Hostel. I feel like it’s also riffing on the recent Fyre Festival debacle, in which guests were promised an equally fantastical experience, only for it to turn out to be major fraud. It seems it could have been worse. At least there wasn’t a killer roaming around!

Michael Peña stars as Mr. Roarke, while his co-stars (and likely victims) include Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Jimmy O. Yang, and Michael Rooker. Hale has already had one leading scream queen role in the poorly received Truth Or Dare. Let’s hope this is a lot better than that (although this is directed by the same director, Jeff Wadlow, so we’ll see).

The clip above is pretty much your typical horror trailer. There are no surprises and the trailer gives away most of the plot anyway. But this is also the kind of prime February fare that will probably perform well as a date night movie.

We’ll wait and see and give Fantasy Island a chance. The film hits cinemas on Valentine’s Day 2020.
