The first trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming film Tenet has finally arrived, and fans will not be disappointed.
The film, which stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki, is being described as a “massive action blockbuster”, was shot using a combination of 70mm and IMAX cameras, and re-teams Nolan with Dunkirk cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.
If you were looking forward to another bout of Nolan’s mind-melting originality á la Inception (which this film has often been compared to during development), then you’re in luck. The trailer below is tantalising in the few details it reveals – what looks like a very original take on time travel or something like it – but also smart to withhold most of its information.
Nolan has always been exceptionally good at keeping the actual plot of his movies close to the vest, even up to the actual release. It’s hard to recall now, but no one knew what Inception was about at the time. And most assumed Dunkirk was a 3-hour war epic, before it turned out to be a shorter, more immediate and visceral experience. Expect major details to remain secretive this time around too.
What has been revealed is that Pattinson is psyched about the film. He previously stated: “I’ve been a little wary of doing big movies for years and years, but there’s just something about Nolan’s stuff. He seems like the only director now who can do what is essentially a very personal, independent movie that has huge scale. I read the script and it’s unreal”.
The film also stars Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Kenneth Branagh, and yes, Michael Caine. Tenet hits cinemas July 17, 2020.
