Netflix has released the the first trailer for the new film from The Raid writer/director Gareth Evans, Apostle. However there won’t be any highly choreographed fight scenes in tall buildings this time around, as this is a bloody, faith-based horror-thriller set in 1905.
It stars Dan Stevens as Thomas Richardson, a man who travels to a secluded island where his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. However Thomas’ arrival signals even more sinister goings-on, and as the trailer below shows, Apostle looks set to be a bloody, gory horror movie. Just in time for Halloween.
Also on board is Martin Sheen as the enigmatic cult leader, Prophet Malcolm, as well as Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, and Paul Higgins.
For fans of The Raid, this will be something different, but hopefully just as visceral and memorable. For genre fans, the trailer hints at the kind of horror insanity audiences always clamour for come October.
Apostle premieres on Netflix Friday, October 12.
