Los Angeles based indie-pop duo Freedom Fry have joined forces with French-American singer Clara-Nova for their energizing new single, “Matchstick”. The song is taken from the band’s next EP coming out later this month.
Freedom Fry are a musical duo formed by a married couple, Parisian-born Marie Seyrat and American Bruce Driscoll. Apart from creating their original tunes, they also produce, mix and master songs, as well as cover other tracks released by other artists. Freedom Fry are known for their talent for infectious melodies spanning different genres and moods.
In 2016, the band dropped their hit track “Shaky Ground” through Universal Music. Next year, they followed it up with six other singles and two EPs and were labelled as Best Indie Rock of 2017 by Indie Shuffle.
In February 2018, Freedom Fry shared their debut LP titled Classic and embarked on a world tour encompassing cities from LA to Paris. Recently, the duo opened their own studio called The Cactus Garden and started releasing a new EP every three months. They’ve been supported by the likes of Alt Nation, KEXP and the BBC.
The latest offering from Freedom Fry features vocals from a talented artist they met on tour. Clara-Nova is the stage name of the French-American electro-pop singer and instrumentalist Sydney Wayser. She has three studio albums in her repertoire and her music has been used in many acclaimed TV series, including Shameless and Grey’s Anatomy.
Speaking about their first collaboration in a few years, Freedom Fry explain, “We met CLARA-NOVA on a tour we did of the east coast a few years back. We hit it off and, since we all live in Los Angeles, decided to get into the studio and see what would happen.
“We wrote & recorded the basics of ‘Matchstick’ very quickly one afternoon. It felt like we were all on the same wavelength and the song just appeared”.
