During yesterday’s episode of Gogglebox, fans of the sofa orientated TV show gathered to support narrator Caroline Aherne after her voice seemed extremely strained from her lung cancer battle. Best known for co-writing and starring as Denise in The Royle Family, Atherne was diagnosed with the disease back in 2014, but seemed more noticeably affected in Friday’s episode.
Using Twitter to share their admiration about support, one fan wrote “Massive, massive respect for Caroline Aherne to still voice Gogglebox while she’s battling throat cancer”, with another stating: “Love, support and admiration to Caroline during this traumatic time! Get Well Soon”!
Others defended Aherne, after a small minority critcised her performance due to her husky sounding voice: “Seeing tweets mocking the Gogglebox voiceover. Caroline Aherne battled lung cancer and she’s still working! Think before you speak”. See more Tweets below and catch Gogglebox again next Friday (28 February) on Channel 4.
Fair play to Caroline Aherne, battling lung cancer and still doing the #gogglebox voiceover. Hope she gets better soon. ??

Fair play to Caroline Aherne. If I had cancer, I'd be curled up in a ball crying. The fact she's able to work at all is fantastic #gogglebox
