‘Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller & Mads Mikkelsen To Reunite For Horror Film ‘Dust Bunny’

Hannibal fans rejoice! Those that still mourn the cult show’s cancellation will be able to get a taste of their favourite show when series creator Bryan Fuller and star Mads Mikkelsen reteam for an upcoming horror movie titled Dust Bunny.

Fuller will write, produce, and make his feature directorial debut with the project, while Mikkelsen will play the lead. The film will reportedly follow an eight-year-old girl who believes that a monster lurking under her bed ate her family. So she turns to her “intriguing neighbor” for help to kill the monster.

That’s all we know right now, but Fuller is a known lover of horror, so seeing what he brings to the table in his directorial debut will be fascinating. And Mikkelsen is not only a great actor, but a great actor of dark, intriguing characters, so this role sounds right up his alley.

Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce for companies Thunder Road and Entertainment One. Lee said of Fuller’s involvement: “We have been huge fans of Bryan’s for years. Dust Bunny is incredibly inventive and unlike anything in the marketplace and we are thrilled to help bring his first feature to life.”

Kristen Figeroid, Sierra/Affinity’s Managing Director and Executive Vice President, had similar sentiments about Mikkelsen’s casting:

“Mads brings such a unique quality to every character he brings to life and his role in Dust Bunny will be no exception. We’re excited to bring a throwback to the family horror films of the ’80s, a beloved genre for many.”

Fuller and Mikkelsen worked together on Hannibal for three seasons, and the show focused on the early relationship between criminal profiler Will Graham and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter as they aided the FBI in tracking down serial killers – including, unbenknownst to them for a while, Hannibal himself.

The show’s dedicated fanbase – dubbed Fannibals – has pushed for a fourth season since the show’s initial cancellation in 2015, but it doesn’t look likely at this point. But the series has been lauded by critics and audiences alike for its stunning and usually brutal visuals, its storytelling, acting, and more.

So no Hannibal reunion, but Dust Bunny is not a bad substitute. Fuller has been busy in the last week, as it was also just announced that he will be in charge of Crystal Lake, a prequel series to the Friday the 13th franchise that will stream on Peacock.

Mikkelsen will next be seen in Indiana Jones 5, and is reuniting with A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel for The Bastard.

Production on Dust Bunny is set to begin in January.
