All good things come to an end, or so the saying goes. But sometimes, you ask yourself, must they really? Case in point; the highly successful and beloved HBO series Girls. Rumour has it that the show will be saying goodbye after season 6 – which makes me want to curl up and cry.

It is The Hollywood Reporter that brings us this saddening news. As upsetting as it is, the news isn’t surprising. Series creator and the fabulous Lena Dunham, has previously spoken about the shows inevitable end. “Never say never, but that is the way that we’re thinking about it right now, and we’re starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women,” Dunham told Z100’s Elvis Duran and the Morning Show back in September.

I started working on this show when I was 23, and I’m going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world”. That seems only fair, and I understand the cast wanting to spread their wings and take on new and exciting challenges. The show has never had high ratings, but has come to have a huge cultural impact and launch the careers of Lena Dunham and Adam Driver. Season 5 premieres on February 21.
