Believe it or not, but Disney’s High School Musical, starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, released 13 years ago in 2006!

So fittingly, I celebrated by re-watching the first film, and I wasn’t disappointed. With song names like “Stick to the Status Quo” and “Getcha Head in the Game”, I realised these were all corny clichés that had been transformed into meaningful songs – the school is trying to rid itself of the stereotypes, and it sends an important message to kids for sure.

As a kid myself when this film came out, I could see there were cliques in school, but as I grew older the cliques seemed to fade, and we not longer had to ‘stick to the status quo’. Though whether thats down to High School Musical or just us growing up a bit is anybody’s guess.

The classic cafeteria scene is fitting too. A place where a community comes together, but they couldn’t be more isolated at their tables, is a powerful message and one that rings true to real life.

Overall the film changed Disney TV-Film history, and unfortunately they are yet to top it.
