Inspired by Lady Gaga’s emotionally-charged performance of her Oscar-nominated song “Til It Happens To You” at the Oscars on Sunday night, model-turned-actress Jaime King has bravely shared her own story. The actress shared a poignant message with her followers on Instagram earlier this week, all about acceptance, courage, love and family.
Thank you @ladygaga – I finally felt a true healing from years of abuse as a minor in the industry. Time to be brave https://t.co/PwEXY4Xtyb

King posted a photo of herself as a teen on Instagram, and revealed that the abuse began when she was only 12 years old. “Thank you for the switch that went off inside finally when I realized my silence said I cannot help nor change and that is not who I am. I love you all very much for creating a safe space. The time is now. I was about 14 here, it started at 12. Peace Be Still ❤️”
She also praised and thanked everyone who had stood by her, supported her, and helped her deal with the abuse over the years. She praised her Kyle Newman “for loving me whole”, Lena Dunham “for her relentless bravery that always leads my Spirit to stand up”, Taylor Swift “for being there no matter what”, several doctors for their empathy, UN Women and countless other organisations.
Gaga turned to Twitter shortly after King shared her story, and praised the actress for her bravery. The singer/actress also posted a lovely photo of King on her personal Instagram commending her courageous act with the caption “An angel. Thank you”.
. @Jaime_King you are so brave to come forward, a warrior leading the way. I don’t feel alone anymore watching this happen is unreal.
