Tokyo-based artist Risa Kumon has introduced her captivating rendition of Sam Cooke’s classic “Nothing Can Change This Love,” an integral track on her recent album Ri-Verse.
Released on July 26th, this compelling ballad stands as a testament to timeless love, harnessing Kumon’s powerful vocals to deliver a message of enduring affection, irrespective of circumstances. The album Ri-Verse embodies a rich blend of multicultural influences, merging elements of R&B, jazz, soul, and pop – the genres that primarily define Kumon’s extensive musical repertoire.
Growing up in Sasebo City, Nagasaki, she was drawn to R&B after watching Sister Act 2 and found early inspiration in icons like Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and jazz music that her father played. Her music style, which effortlessly combines these influences, reflects a unique artistry that has already earned her a significant fanbase.
The album has been skillfully produced by American hip-hop artist and producer, Rolandis ‘RORO’ Ramsey, with the mastering process led by industry veteran Herb Powers Jr., who has previously worked with big names like TLC, Usher, Lauryn Hill, and Mariah Carey.
While Ri-Verse is already available online, music enthusiasts in Japan can expect to find the CD format in stores from September.
