Just days after it was announced that director Jeff Nichols is working on A Quiet Place spinoff, it turns out he’s got another project in the works. The filmmaker is reportedly on board to write and direct a original sci-fi project for Paramount.
Unfortunately actual details on the project are pretty much nonexistent at this point, except that it’s an original script and Nichols will tackle the project after completing work on the aforementioned Quiet Place spinoff, which is already slated to arrive on March 31, 2023.
Nichols’ 2016 sci-fi film Midnight Special performed poorly at the box office but has since become a bit of a cult hit among genre aficionados. He was also on board to remake Alien Nation for Disney at one point. But the studio asked him to refit the film into a 10-episode TV series, probably for Disney+, and there’s been no word on the project since.
Nichols is currently writing Yankee Comandante, adapted from David Grann‘s New Yorker article about Che Guevara and William Alexander Morgan. There’s no word on when that film will fit into his schedule. Perhaps he’ll just write the script for that project, allowing him to step away and direct these other movies.
So while we don’t know much about this project, nor even many details regarding the Quiet Place spinoff, it’s clear that Nichols is a well-respected filmmaker that Paramount wants to keep working with well into the future. Hopefully stronger details about either of his next films will soon trickle through.
