This is one of those stories that sounds so ridiculous, Robert De Niro could actually do it. In an interview on Live! With Kelly and Michael, global megastar Jennifer Lawrence stated her intention to star in a David O. Russell movie as Robert De Niro’s mother. Lawrence’s next film to come out is Joy, which marks her third collaboration with both director Russell and film legend De Niro. In Joy, Lawrence plays the titular role of Joy Mangano, a divorced mother of two who goes on to build a business empire after creating the Miracle Mop and De Niro stars alongside her as Joy’s father.

Well, in her interview on the U.S. talk show, Lawrence stated that their roles would be switched, claiming: “David is making something right now and the plan, so far, is for me to play Bob De Niro’s mother … I think that the more people give him crap about me being too young for his parts, he’s like, ‘Oh yeah, watch this’ – so we’ll see.” Likely just having a dig at the critics of her partnership with Russell, Lawrence did not go on to discuss any further details on the project. Regardless of the validity of Lawrence’s statement, her third collaboration with Russell and De Niro, Joy, is due for release December 25.
