Jennifer Lopez and Armie Hammer are teaming up to star in the action-comedy Shotgun Wedding, which is in development at Lionsgate.
The plot revolves around a couple who gather their lovable but opinionated families for a destination wedding, but each of them are secretly getting cold feet. On top of that, everyone’s lives are suddenly in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. The studio has described the film as a “hilarious, adrenaline-fueled adventure as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones — if they don’t kill each other first”.
Hammer and Lopez is a fresh pairing, so it will be interesting to see how they pull this genre-mash up off. Plus the film should encourage the casting of plenty of fun character actors to fill the roles of Darcy and Tom’s extended family, so there’s plenty of potential for hijinks of the goofy and action variety.
Jason Moore will direct the film from a script written by Mark Hammer and Liz Meriweather (New Girl). Production on the film is expected to begin in early 2021. Before that, Lopez will star alongside Owen Wilson in a romcom titled Marry Me, which drops around Valentines Day 2021, while Hammer just starred in Ben Wheatley‘s new version of Rebecca, which arrived on Netflix last week.
