Jessie Buckley To Star In Alex Garland’s New Movie ‘Men’ | Film News

It was reported a few months ago that Alex Garland, usually known for his heady sci-fi projects like Ex Machina and Devs, was developing a low budget horror movie in the UK. The film now has a title – Men – and is set up with A24, but most excitingly, has found its lead actor in the form of Jessie Buckley.

The film reportedly follows a young woman who goes on a solo holiday to the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband. Garland is now trying to find Buckley’s co-star for the film, but her role became much sought after once the project was in motion.

This should be a great fit. Buckley is a rising star who’s already had recent experience in a horror-adjacent film, in the form of Charlie Kaufman‘s recent Netflix film I’m Thinking Of Ending Things. Buckley also stole the show in Wild Rose and Misbehaviour, and has had roles on Fargo and Chernobyl. She’s on the brink of stardom, and Men should help her continue ascending the ladder.

Wit A24 involved too, the film not only has a backer who’ve been behind numerous excellent films, but who also usually get movies out quickly. So it’s possible we’ll be seeing Men as soon as late 2021, although that’s by no means a guarantee.

It will also be interesting to see how Garland handles a movie away from his sci-fi comfort zone. Buckley will next be seen starring in The Courier, a historical drama which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel Brosnahan, which is due to be released in February.
