Joaquin Phoenix To Star In Ari Aster’s Next Movie ‘Disappointment Blvd.’ | Film News

Get ready for a double dose of psychological weirdness. Having already helmed Hereditary and Midsommar, Ari Aster‘s next project was always going to be highly anticipated and likely strange and creepy. But that wasn’t enough for him. So he’s gone and cast one of the best actors around, but also a man also known for playing strangeness exceptionally well: Joaquin Phoenix.

Aster’s next movie is titled Disappointment Blvd., and will once again be distributed by A24. It’s being described as “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time”.

When rumours about the project were making the rounds late last year, Discussing Film described it as:

“A surrealist horror film set in an alternate present”. Back then the film was reportedly going by the title Beau Is Afraid. However it’s unclear if that was the same project with a different name, or a totally different one, as Aster had a number of scripts he was considering for his next movie.

This will be Phoenix’s first post-Oscar role after winning the golden statue for Joker. He’s got some interesting roles lined up though, despite being known as being picky about what he chooses. He’ll star as Napoleon in Ridley Scott‘s Kitbag, and he’ll next be seen in Mike Mills‘ drama, C’mon C’mon.

Whatever Disappointment Blvd. is actually about, with Aster and Phoenix teaming up, it should be something to behold and will likely continue Aster’s impressive box office run. Usually people don’t flock to the cinema for disturbing horror movies, but he’s found a way to get them there.
