Josh Brolin To Play Cable In ‘Deadpool’ Sequels | Film News

The speculation can end, Deadpool has found its Cable. Michael Shannon and Brad Pitt were names that were bounced around, but Josh Brolin has grabbed the role. It makes sense really, Cable is no-nonsense and tough, the kind of role Brolin has excelled at in the past. He should be a good foil for Ryan Reynolds‘ meta and irreverent anti-hero.

To add intrigue to the news, Brolin reportedly has signed a four picture deal. So if audiences like the character, expect to see him turn up in multiple Deadpool sequels as well as the probable X-Force movie.

Oddly, Brolin is already playing a villain, Thanos, in the MCU, so for now there’s the slightly surprising fact that the same actor will be playing large scale antagonists for big budget franchises. Of course, villains don’t always last long in the MCU, so perhaps this problem will sort itself out before too long.

Deadpool fans should be pretty excited at this news. Brolin is one of the most consistent, multi-range actors around and should be an excellent foil to Deadpool’s wackiness. Though no release date for the sequel has yet been announced, production is slated to begin in June in Vancouver. David Leitch (John Wick) will direct.
