Julio Torres To Make Directorial Debut With A24 Film Starring Tilda Swinton

Julio Torres (Los Espookys, Saturday Night Live) will make his directorial debut with a new project at A24, which he will also write and star in alongside Tilda Swinton. Emma Stone and Dave McCary are on board to produce through their production studio Fruit Tree Shingle.

Very little is currently known about the project, other that it’s a comedy in the very earliest stages of development. Torres served as a writer on SNL from 2016 to 2019, and also starred in his own HBO comedy special My Favorite Shapes a couple of years ago.

He’s also been seen on Shrill, Bob’s Burgers, and 2021 postmodern romantic comedy Together Together.

He’s currently the writer and creator of Los Espookys, a horror-comedy on HBO starring Ana Fabrega and Fred Armisen, which follows a group of friends who run a business attempting to create real-life horror film situations and trick people into thinking they’re real.

So Torres is already a talented multi-faceted creator, and he’ll now be able to add director to his resume. Getting to make your first film at A24 with Swinton as your co-star is a coup, and it will be interesting to find out what the film is actually about down the line.

This is another project to add to Swinton’s busy upcoming slate. She recently dominated the Cannes Film Festival by having roles in The French Dispatch, The Souvenir Part II, and Memoria.

She’ll also star in Wes Anderson‘s next film, Joanna Hogg‘s The Eternal Daughter, Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pinocchio reimagining, and George Miller‘s Three Thousand Years Of Longing.
