Booksmart star Kaitlyn Dever is one of the industry’s rising talents, and her star is only going to continue to rise over the next few years, as she’s signed on for two new film projects.
First, she’s joining George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Universal’s Ticket To Paradise, an original romantic comedy that will see the former Ocean’s Eleven stars playing an ex-couple who team up to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made. Dever will play the daughter.
Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) will direct from a script he wrote alongside Daniel Pipski. Universal is currently scheduled to release the film theatrically on September 30th, 2022.
The second project Dever is onboard for is hot spec script No One Will Save You, which is in development at 20th Century Studios.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film hails from Brian Duffield, who recently directed the fun sci-fi/black comedy/romance Spontaneous with Katherine Langford and Charlie Plummer, so insiders reportedly expect a similar genre mash-up here.
20th Century Studios won the project in a competitive bidding situation, so they’re obviously high on it. Star Thrower Entertainment, which also produced Warner Bros.’ upcoming Will Smith drama King Richard, will produce.
Dever broke out in 2019’s Booksmart, but prior to that she was appearing in excellent indies such as Short Term 12 and The Spectacular Now. She also had a main role in Netflix’s acclaimed crime miniseries, Unbelievable.
She’s well on her way to becoming a big star. Alongside the new projects, she’s also got a key role in Universal’s adaptation of popular musical Dear Evan Hansen.
That arrives in September. She’s also got two interesting TV projects lined up – a lead role alongside Michael Keaton in Hulu’s Dopesick, focusing on the opioid crisis in America, and an appearance in FX’s new anthology series, Platform.
